The Nicola Language

The Nicola language, once spoken in the Nicola valley, is believed to have been extinct since the early 1900s. Its speakers were absorbed by the larger Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) nation among whom they lived.

The indigenous name for this language is unknown, so it is named after the valley in which it was once spoken. In the Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) language the speakers of Nicola and their descendants are known as the /stuwix/.

Nicola is an Athabaskan language.
